What is Students of Service (SOS)?
SOS is a shipboard organization responsible for raising funds to support charities around the world. To do so, the group members plan and host fundraising events, organize raffles, and coordinate donation projects. The signature event of SOS is the Charity Auction that takes place at the end of each Semester at Sea voyage. At the conclusion of the voyage, SOS facilitates a process where the shipboard community identifies a handful of charities and non-profit organizations to receive the funds raised throughout the voyage. Past voyages have raised upwards of $25,000. The Fall 07 voyage would like to raise as much as possible to donate to the charities. This is one of the ways Semester at Sea gives back to communities that we visit in addition to thanking the people for allowing us to visit their land and learn about their lifestyles and cultures.
What is the SOS Charity Auction?
The Charity Auction is the signature event of Students of Service. It is an evening event including a live auction, a silent auction, and a number of raffles. The Fall 2007 Charity Auction will take place on the evening of Nov. 20th (B19). The Charity Auction is made possible by the significant donations provided by Crew, Faculty, Staff, Life Long Learners and Students.
